It’s been awhile since I have sent out a blog post and I am kind of excited about this one, as those that know me well, know that I am a kind of a nerd at heart. We all have our smartphones and starting to hear a lot about “smart homes” and wondering what the heck does that mean? Well, I have been digging around about smart home products and want to introduce you to a few products I think are pretty cool.
The one is I am most excited about is the Nest and their latest model was just announced this week. The Nest is a “smart” thermostat. The Nest, once installed (easy peezy … ) and as you use it for a bit, it begins to learn your thermostat adjustment patterns and begins automatically adjust your thermostat based on your established patterns. Beyond that, let’s say you rushed off to work and forgot to adjust your thermostat? No problem, with the Nest you can adjust your home temperature from an app on your phone. Or let’s say you’re in bed, reading a great book, all warm and cozy and you’re ready to turn the lights off for the night and heaven forbid you have to get out of bed and adjust the thermostat!?! Use your Nest app to turn down the heat down and maybe up again in the morning when you wake up. Kind of cool — huh? And eventually the Nest learns your patterns and you don’t even have to think about any of this, it just does it for you. Check it out at: https://nest.com
Another great smart home product is the Kwikset Kevo. It is a “smart” lock for your doors. It’s the same concept as the Nest with remote access from an app on your phone and you lock and unlock your doors. Let’s say you want to unlock your door for a service person, maybe your plumber, you can use your Kevo app to unlock the door and again lock it when he leaves. Or let’s say you have a guest visiting, using the Kevo app, can digitally send them an “e-key” so they can come and go as they please, without a key and just using their phone. The Kevo also lets you lock and unlock your doors without a key simply by physically touching the lock, similar to the technology you find in keyless cars these days. And guess what?!?! Your Kevo can talk to your Nest, you unlock your door and your Nest thermostat adjusts! What next? Check it out: https://mykevo.com
These are my two favorite ‘smart home‘ products as of today and as I come across other good ones, I will share them with you.
